The “Düsseldorfer Tabelle”
The “Düsseldorfer Tabelle” for German Child Maintenance changed on 1st January 2018 and might have an impact on the Child Maintenance you receive or have to pay. Here are the most important changes:
- The minimum Child Maintenance amount for minor children increases
Minor children in Germany who received Child Maintenance in the past under the income level 1 (“Einkommensstufe 1”), which is up to EURO 1,500.00, receive more monthly Child Maintenance now. But only if the paying parent is not excluded because he / she has a minimum income level (“Selbstbehalt”). - The Child Maintenance needs level (“Bedarfssaetze”) for the income level 2 – 10 has also increased by between 5-8% since 1st January 2018.
- The Child Maintenance needs level for 18+ children stays as it is.
But, for the first time in 10 years the income groups to calculate the Child Maintenance in Germany have changed now.
The previous Income levels 1 (up to EURO 1,500) and level 2 (up to EURO 1,900) are now one income level and all other income levels will be respectively amended.
What is the effect of the new Child Maintenance table?
All children in Germany that received child maintenance previously calculated on the old level 2 or abovewill now receive less child maintenance, unless the paying party did not receive a pay rise and their net income in 2018 is the same as in 2017.
